Originalausgabe:	Offenbar gibt es zwei so genannte Originalausgaben, nämlich eine spanische und eine englische, beide von Ariel Dorfman selbst geschrieben! Und obwohl das Stück seine Welturaufführung in englischer Sprache erlebte, entstand es zunächst auf Spanisch. Der Autor selbst schätzt beide Versionen und möchte keine von beiden favorisieren. Mehr noch: Er meint, ein Stück gehöre - nachdem es einmal geschrieben ist - ohnehin mehr den Zuschauern und Schauspielern, als dem Autor. Mailwechsel	Ariel Dorfman und seine Assistentin Jennifer Prather antworten im März 2001 auf unsere Frage nach der Sprache der "Originalfassung": "Ariel Dorfman asked me to tell you that the play was written originally in Spanish, but he rewrote it in English, so either can be considered as the original language of the play. Also, he is curious about the Cornelsen edition you speak of, as he has not heard of it. If you would, could you please send more information about it. Is it a Spanish translation of the German play? "Thank you for your interest in Prof. Dorfman's work. He wishes you all the best in your performance of his play." --- "Prof. Dorfman wrote first in Spanish, but he also wrote the English version, so it is not merely a translation. Either one can be considered as the original. He has no preference. "I hope that is a satisfactory answer to your question. Prof. Dorfman wishes you well with your production. --- "Prof. Dorfman has no preference between the two versions and suggests, instead, that you choose the version you think is best for your audience, as that is the most important thing. Once written, a play belongs more to the audience and the performers than to the playwright. "Good luck to you all!"
